It was only a matter of time before someone brought it up! Anyway, I've been playing Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2 (haven't gotten my hands on Carmageddon TDR, yet) and having a blast. Carma1 is more compatible (due to DOS executable) and is easier to play (due to sturdier cars and easier levels) whereas Carma2 has a lot more to offer (due to peds that act like physics objects, more powerups, the ability to buy any vehicle). It's hard to pick a favorite, but IMO it would be best if the content of both games was transferred or whatever to a new, multi-platform engine.

For those who have never played Carmageddon but don't want to commit piracy, and those who wish Carmageddon had nicer graphics here's something you can play (Windows XP/Vista/7 only): http://physxinfo.com/news/3367/physx-po ... na-remake/
You'll need to track down a few things, and the game itself only includes the first level and a few cars (using content from the demo), but the requirements are all easy to find, and the game/demo/etc. itself is actually lag-free and glitch-free.

For those of you on Linux, bug me and I'll pass you both Carmageddon 1 and Carmageddon 2.
Carma1: Run CARMAGDN.EXE under DOSBox, possibly with the -hires modifier.
Carma2: Get PlayOnLinux, install the game (Wine version 1.1.32, 640X480 desktop, hardware vertex shading, ALSA audio with full audio emulation) and nGlide, then run Carma2.exe and set the graphics to Glide if at all possible. From then on, you can run the game using Carma2HW.exe.
